CEO Message: “We parents are encouraged to not abandon them and not give up.”
We received this letter from a grateful mother whose son recently spent a week in a special summer camp organised by ICC. She spoke glowingly about how happy he was, and how much the camp had done for the children, and the parents.
It is still a heart-wrenching reality in China that many parents feel incapable of meeting the needs of a child with a disability. The economic pressure and intense challenge of providing adequate care can make abandonment seem like the only option—or sadly, the best option to ensure a safe future for their child.
“Thank you, ICC, for organising this camp. When Haohao got home, he was still talking about all the things that happened today.”
Through our Family Partners Programme, families receive the essential support they need to care for their children with disabilities. In addition to providing therapy, special education and social services, ICC provides the hope, love and caring partners that are required to build strong families.
“Under the loving care of people who love them, they are blessed. You guys taught them how to draw, took them swimming…”
This month we are introducing a new way for you to take part in this work. You can become part of a global community that prevents child abandonment and supports struggling parents so they don’t have to “go it alone”. You will be connected to a community of families in China who value your support, and you’ll get updates on their progress, triumphs and hopes for the future.
When families who have so little are willing to do so much to care for their children with disabilities, you can be there to provide the support they need to stay together.
