【CEO Message】Coronavirus and ICC
Dear friends,
I am sure that you are all watching the developments in China with a mixture of emotions, especially with concern for the young people and staff in our projects.
While Changsha is hundreds of kilometres away from Wuhan, Hunan is adjacent to the province where the virus has broken out, so there is obviously cause for concern.
As of Saturday, none of the young people in our care or our staff – domestic and foreign – had been affected by the coronavirus. Both Hengyang and Changsha cities have recorded positive cases, however, and it is too early to determine how widespread the contagion will be.
The welfare centres where we work have taken precautions, and restrictions are in place to prevent our young people from being exposed to the public, and therefore to the virus.
This will also affect daily life in our projects, including visits by anyone who is not part of our authorised staff. This will also have an impact on visits that are scheduled for February and March. We will have more details on that in the coming days.
For now I want to reassure you that our children and staff are safe and adequate measures are being taken to keep them safe. This situation is unfolding on a daily basis, so we cannot predict what the circumstances will be in the next week.
I encourage you to pray for the safety of our young people and staff, and for quick recovery for all those in China (and elsewhere) who are stricken with this virus.
Grace and peace.
