【CEO Message】 China Update
I am sure you are all following the developments in China, and are aware that the number of new cases of the coronavirus continues to climb. I want to assure you that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the young people in our care and our staff. Together, they number more than 400 people. That’s a lot to look after, but Kyla Alexander, our China Operations Director and her team are doing an excellent job.
In Changsha, at the request of the government welfare centre with whom we work, 15 staff are in lockdown with our children who have severe disabilities. This has been done only as a precaution, to ensure they stay healthy. The staff are sleeping side by side with the kids, without complaint – bear in mind, this is all happening during the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), which is the most important holiday in China.
In Hengyang, the care centre that we operate is cordoned off from the general public, and everyone is safe and sound.
Still, this is a very challenging time for everyone, and I am so impressed by the team’s professionalism and courage. The situation remains serious. Hunan province currently has 661 coronavirus cases – 5th most in China.
We are grateful for your prayer and support. They are important for those who are on the frontlines.
