【CEO Report】2nd Quarterly Newsletter

Dear Friends,

In this issue, you will read about a fun-loving little girl and her dedicated grandmother who live together in a tiny apartment in Changsha. I first met them a couple of years ago, as we trudged up the four flights of stairs to their home. Despite seemingly endless hardships, Lele’s grandmother was always there for her, and the result of that commitment was plain to see.

At ICC, we believe our commitment to the children is transforming lives, but often the results appear in subtle ways. It’s a child who didn’t speak and wouldn’t make eye contact when they came to our care centre, blossoming within a few months: hugging, interacting and receiving love. It’s a family that finally sees rays of hope after a time of darkness. Our commitment is also evident in the sacrifices that our staff has made during this long season of the coronavirus. As you will read in these pages, our team not only spent many days in lockdown while sleeping in makeshift beds, but they used this opportunity to create new ways of engaging with the children—and the results were plain to see.

Commitment. It comes from a desire to be the best servants we can be, and to do whatever we can for children and families who need it. In this newsletter, that commitment is as clear as the smiles on the faces of Lele and her grandmother.
